Runes and Totems are the next step in Soulframe’s power fantasy, offering new layers of power and buildcraft. Seek them, wield them, and let Alca’s wilds shape your strength.

A pitter-patter of clever creatures whisper Magicks in the forest, and ‘tis speed of forest-tender that casts it. Find strength within, and fulfill without.

Overview

Enchantments, comprised of the Runes and Totems systems, succeeded Motes as the new Weapon modification system in Preludes 11.

Enchantments offer new layers of power and buildcraft similar to Reforging, in that they affect weapon stats and sometimes give unique interactions. The Enchantment menu may be accessed by right-clicking a weapon in the Arsenal.

They can be freely slotted in and out of weapons, are non-consumable, and are cross-build compatible - a Polearm Totem or Rune equipped on one Polearm, for example, does not need to be unequipped to use that same Enchantment on a different Polearm.

Runes

Runes are elemental powers each allocated to a specific weapon type, that emblazon a Weapon's strength in one mighty swing. They also unlock a fourth Totem slot when equipped, whose type will vary with each Rune.

Runes are primarily acquired by defeating Agari or Sieges around Midrath, though many have recently been added to Containers as well. Some runes can only be obtained whilst in the Cogah.

See each rune's individual page in the Index of Runes for where to obtain it.

Totems

Totems carry the essence of Alca's creatures and modify your playstyle across three functional slots: Attack, Defense, and Utility. A fourth slot is also available when a Rune is equipped, and its type varies with each Rune.

Equipping Enchantments

Runes and Totems are applied to the Envoy's Weapons. To equip, open the Arsenal and right-click on your chosen (or equipped) weapon to see:

• 1 central Rune slot

• 3 surrounding Totem slots: Attack, Defense, Utility

• An additional Totem slot will become available if a Rune is equipped, whose type will vary depending on the specific Rune.

Totems are not restricted to a singular slot - multiple of the same Totem can be equipped on your chosen weapon, if you own multiple copies.

Using Enchantments in Combat

Runes:

  • Weapon strikes have a chance to Smite foes, exposing their souls
  • Pull Smite a Smited enemy (Spectral Sight + Light Attack) to obtain a Rune Charge
  • Activate the equipped Rune at any time using Spectral Sight + Heavy Attack (default Q  + Mouse Button 3 ).

Multiple charges may be banked, and will be held indefinitely - allowing an Envoy to save this power for when it is needed most. Each activation consumes one charge.

Totems:

  • Always active to modify Attack, Defense, and Utility.

Upgrading Enchantments

Harmonies may be used via the Arsenal to upgrade the rank and effectiveness of Runes and Totems, up to a maximum of Rank 3.

Harmonies can be acquired by:

  • Charming wild animals (the better you play, the more you earn)
  • Freeing caged critters
  • Releasing excess Totems/Runes from the Arsenal

Trivia

  • Enchantments were previously known as Magicks, until they were renamed in Preludes 12.
  • Runes and Totems replaced the previous Motes System for enhancing items.
