Mastery

Overview

Mastery is a type of experience in Soulframe which contributes to the player's Envoy Rank; their overall account level. Each Envoy Rank provides an additional point into one of the three Virtues, the allocation of which will be determined by the player's equipped Virtue Prism.
Maximum Mastery as of Preludes 14 is ~18.5 for Paragon Founders.
Mastery vs. Experience
Mastery is earnt alongside Experience for the Envoy's equipped Pact and Weapon - but only once per item. As such, re-leveling a weapon from Rank 0 (by Crafting a duplicate) will only provide Experience for previously earnt ranks.
Below is an example of the above distinction between Mastery and Experience:
- The player obtains
Wulder, and earns Weapon Experience by slaying enemies, ranking it to Rank 24. This first-time Experience also provides Mastery towards the player's Envoy Rank. - The player accidentally sells Wulder, and crafts another. This Wulder, being new, has no Experience - it begins at Rank 0. The player, however, still has the Mastery that they earnt from Ranks 0 - 24.
- The player earns enough Weapon Experience to re-rank Wulder to Rank 24. This time, no Mastery is obtained alongside the Experience, as the Mastery from Wulder Ranks 0 - 24 has already been obtained.
- The player continues to earn Weapon Experience, ranking Wulder to Rank 30. Since these ranks have not been previously attained, the player obtains Mastery for Ranks 25 - 30.
Now that the player has reached Rank 30 with Wulder, they have obtained all Mastery that may ever be earnt from this weapon.
Earning Mastery
Items
- Weapons provide a small amount of Mastery per Rank, up to Rank 30. They provide less than Pacts, but also are quicker to level up.
- Pacts provide a much larger amount of Mastery for each Rank, up to Rank 30.
- Unlike Weapons and Pacts, Armour and Accessories do not Rank up nor provide any Mastery.
Actions
- Cleansing the World Trees provides some Mastery.
- Gathering History Motes will give a significant amount of Mastery. Use Pull Smite (Spectral Sight + Light Attack) on them in Key Locations to obtain them.
- The initial discovery of Locations and new Dungeon Types (for example discovering one's first ever Neath'uns entrance), such that they are recorded in the Journal, provides a small amount of Mastery:
Trivia
- The now-unavailable Fey Pact used to provide Mastery even after its removal in Preludes 9, though this was eventually fixed in Preludes 14. Here are two images comparing max Mastery during Preludes 13 Hotfix 5 with, and without, the Fey Pact:
