Crafting

Overview

Crafting, Refining and Reforging are key systems of obtaining and upgrading Loot in Soulframe.
Access to these systems requires completion of The Steelsinger, an Ancestor Fable which unlocks the blacksmith,
Tuvalkane, for the Envoy's Nightfold.
Crafting is performed by speaking to Tuvalkane, and the interface is separated into four tabs as follows;
Refine
Refine owned Weapons using Chordstones.
Crafting

From the Fragments and Cast tabs, the Envoy may forge various items from blueprints known as
Fragments. Crafting will also consume a variety of Materials and
, and takes an amount of time depending on the crafted item.
The Cast tab is unique to miscellaneous resources, as opposed to equipment forged via the Craft tab. Most Casting processes will not consume
Fragments, though there are exceptions, such as the
.
Materials & Fragments
Crafting consumes various Materials and Fragments. Fragments, indicated by the
Fragment Icon in the Inventory, are the components of the specific item.
Most Fragments are consumed upon craft, though some will act as reusable recipes, such as the Fragments for Chordstones. Check any craftable item's page, or refer to the Droptable, to view where all these Fragments can be obtained.
Refer to the Index of Materials for a list of all Materials in Soulframe, and select a Material to see where it can be obtained.
Crafting Rank
Rank 1
Upon first speaking to Tuvalkane, the Envoy will not be able to craft everything despite owning the prerequisite Fragments; this is because most items require the Envoy to increase their Bond with Tuvalkane, also known as Crafting Rank. This may be increased via two means;
- The first time any new (i.e. not previously forged) recipe is crafted; whether from
Fragments, forging Chordstones, and beyond. Items must be Claimed in order to yield the Bond increase, so the Envoy must have enough Storage Capacity to do this.
- Certain equipment requires a higher Bond with Tuvalkane to craft, and so it may be necessary to focus on crafting lower-tier gear at first until Tuvalkane will craft more powerful equipment.
- Refining Weapons also grants Crafting XP the first time a Weapon reaches each new Craftwork tier, ignoring duplicates of the same Weapon.
- For example, refining any
Orst-III to a new Craftwork for the first time will grant XP for Orst-III at that tier. Once any Orst-III has been refined to its maximum Craftwork, no further XP is awarded from refining further Orst-IIIs.
- For example, refining any
Rank 2
Upon reaching Bond Rank 2, the Envoy will unlock Reforging at Tuvalkane. This may be accessed via the Reforge tab of the Crafting Menu.
Rank 3
This section is a work in progress as we piece things together. Please bear with us, or feel free to contribute by hitting the Edit button!
Rank 4
This is the current maximum Bond Rank for Tuvalkane. Once this cap is reached, additional new crafts or refinements will no longer grant XP until the cap is increased.

Claiming
From the Assembled tab, the Envoy may review, claim, and even Rush their ongoing crafts. There is no limit to how many items may be crafting at the same time, and no limit to how long a crafted item may remain in the forge.
Crafting Duration
Most items will take a set amount of real-world Time to craft, and may be rushed by spending
. However, there is no limit to how many items may be crafting or assembled at once; so there is no need to rush a craft unless you strongly desire immediate access to the item.
Capacity
In order to claim a crafted Weapon, Pact, or Armour piece, the player must have at least 1 free Storage Capacity. However, just as there is no limit to how many items may be crafting at the same time, there is also no limit to how long a crafted item may remain in Tuvalkane's forge.

Refining

From the Refine tab, the Envoy may upgrade favoured Weapons with Chordstones to increase their Craftwork and grant additional Tempers.
Refining a Weapon requires a bounty of miscellaneous Materials, depending on the Origin of each Weapon. However, Envoys will also need to craft a unique refining resource: Chordstones.

Levels of Refinement
Each level of Refinement requires a higher-quality Chordstone as follows:
| Original Craftwork | New Craftwork | Required Chordstone | |
| Stock (0-1 Tempers) | → | Military (1-3 Tempers) | |
| Military (1-3 Tempers) | → | Officer (2-4 Tempers) | |
| Officer (2-4 Tempers) | → | Noble (3-5 Tempers) | |
| Noble (3-5 Tempers) | → | Sovereign (4-6 Tempers) | |
| Sovereign (4-6 Tempers) | → | Legendary (5-8 Tempers) |
- Weapon Refining always grants at least 2 Tempers if it does not exceed the Temper limit of the Craftwork being upgraded into.
- Note that whilst this was written in the patchnotes for P15 H2, there are reports of it not working (Refining granting only 1 Temper, when 2 should have been possible).
- Refining a Weapon to Legendary will always grant 8 Tempers, to ensure the maximum amount is reached.
In a future update, Refining will also allow Envoy to re-roll Tempers on weapons with Legendary Craftwork.
Chordstones
Chordstones are the primary material required to Refine Weapons. The basic
requires only simple crafting materials, but higher-quality Chordstones must be crafted using a combination of:
- Lower-quality Chordstones, which are consumed to create those of higher-quality.
- Lampyrites, a unique material used in the crafting of Chordstones.
The
Fragment for each Chordstone acts as a reusable blueprint and is not consumed upon crafting. However, each Chordstone will require a progressively higher Crafting Rank in order for its Fragment to become available. Chordstone Fragments do not need to be found or looted; they will be added to the Crafting menu automatically upon reaching their required Rank.
Lampyrites
Lampyrites are one of the two key materials, alongside lower-quality Chordstones, which are used to craft Chordstones used in Weapon Refining.
To craft higher-quality Chordstones, Envoys will need to acquire specific Lampyrites. Three types of Lampyrites are to be uncovered, each vital to their corresponding Chordstone. Each rarity of Lampyrite will forge a stronger Chordstone.
Lampyrites can be earned through Midrath’s various activities and uncovered from lurking chests:
- Complete Sieges, The Organ and Hark, The Collector.
- Drop rates increase under the effects of The Cogah.
- Retrieved from Chests around Midrath.
- Random Lampyrite bundles are also offered by Avakot’s Gots for
Arcs. Rarer Lampyrites will cost more Arcs.

Reforging
Reforging will immediately apply the selected Attunement increase to the targeted item, and requires no crafting time - but it will cost a similar amount of Materials and
to those used in the initial crafting of the item, with the addition of the chosen Joinery. Only one Joinery may be installed at any time, but may be replaced with another Joinery as many times as one likes (the previous one is destroyed).
Most Joineries are specific to weapon types;
,
and
apply to Melee, Ranged and Magick weapons respectively, whilst
may be used on any weapon. For the effects of each Joinery, see Joineries.
Attunement Cap
Note that Attunement is capped at 5 Pips for each individual Virtue, represented by a ![]()
![]()
golden border around the pip. However, Reforging also provides the option of adding different Virtue pips compared to a weapon's original Attunement: for example, the player may add Spirit scaling to a Grace- and Courage-attuned weapon like
.
Bond Requirement
Reforging is performed via the Reforge tab of the Crafting menu. This tab will not be visible until the Envoy has achieved Bond Rank 2 with
Tuvalkane.
Trivia
- Until Preludes 15, Crafting only existed for the initial creation of gear, or application of Joineries. The Refining feature was not introduced until Preludes 15: Gods & Ghosts.
- The Cast tab was introduced in Preludes 15 Hotfix 5.
- Until Preludes 14 Hotfix 5, use of a Twice or Thrice Blessed Joinery used to reset a weapon to Rank 0; it needed to be re-leveled to reach its maximum potential. Reforging and re-leveling an item will not award any further Mastery; the Envoy may only acquire mastery for a weapon from Rank 0 to 30 once.
