Chapter 1

Overview
Orlick's Sagas are a series of Quests in Soulframe which become available upon completing The Last Pensive and introducing the Envoy's personal scribe,
Orlick the Bicameral, to the Nightfold. As a scholar, Orlick's writings will introduce the player to key Gameplay mechanics - and Chapter 1 will allow the Envoy to fill out the Journal and unlock Histories.
To begin Orlick's Sagas, simply interact with Orlick at his station in the Nightfold and select the "What sagas need scribing?" dialogue option.
Completing Chapter 1 introduces the player to Enchantments, World Trees, Crafting and Histories.
A Grand Fable
The Omen Stag must be saved! Perhaps you will learn a rune on your way?
"Ah, the cruel page, so empty, so infinite… What should I write!? "Malderations of Murmuring Moths"? No. "Carnivorous Calls of Southward Bogs?" Envoy? See you any visions worthy of ink?"
A Grand Fable is the first Saga in Chapter 1 of Orlick's book. It will introduce the player to their first Omen Beast Fable, The Torment Stag, and teach them the strength of Runes.
• Equip a Rune
The Envoy must enchant one of their Weapons with an owned Rune.
If the player does not yet possess any Runes, it is easiest to first complete The Torment Stag, during which a free Rune will be awarded, and then return to this stage.
Once the Envoy possesses a Rune, simply enter the Arsenal and select the small node next to a weapon to enter the Enchantments interface. Equip a Rune in the centre of this interface then leave the Arsenal, and the objective should be marked as complete.
If the objective is not marked complete after equipping a Rune, try leaving and re-entering the Nightfold, unequipping and re-equipping the Rune, or relogging into Soulframe.
• Complete "The Torment Stag" Fable
The Torment Stag is a major Fable that becomes available after talking to
Orlickat the end of The Last Pensive. Upon leaving the Nightfold, the Envoy should receive a vision of a woman,
Lady Deora, in what appears to be a corrupted forest. A
corrupted stagapproaches from behind her. "By Ode'n reign...this beast, we claim!" the woman exclaims, before planting her
into the ground - thus ending the vision.
The Envoy regains consciousness. As they try to leave, Orlick appears before them; questioning the meaning of the vision. "Dreams. Their meaning, like a river, curving beyond sight." Follow Orlick's guidance, and enjoy your journey into Soulframe's vast narrative.
See The Torment Stag for a full Fable walkthrough.
• Wield a Rune in battle
The Envoy must attack with their equipped Rune three times. Runes are elemental powers woven into the flow of combat via a charge-based system:
- Obtain Rune charges by performing Pull Smites on Foes.
- Rune Charges are indicated by a gauge over the Spirit Arcanic.
- Elite enemies and above, such as Sinecure Knights, will yield two charges.
- Activate the equipped Rune at any time using RuneUnboundRuneMouse & KeyboardUnboundXboxUnboundPlayStationUnbound(unbound by default), or a combination of Spectral SightQSpectral SightMouse & KeyboardQXboxLBPlayStationL1+ Heavy AttackMouse Button 3Heavy AttackMouse & KeyboardMouse Button 3XboxRBPlayStationR1.
Multiple charges may be banked, and will be held indefinitely - allowing an Envoy to save this power for when it is needed most. Each activation consumes one charge.
See Runes for more information.
• Return to Orlick in Nightfold
After completing the above three objectives, the Envoy will be prompted to return to Orlick in the Nightfold. Interact with him and select the "What sagas need scribing?" dialogue option, then select the A Grand Fable Saga and press 'Turn In'.
"What is an 'Envoy'?" asks Orlick. "A messenger… a herald. But from where? Or when? An ancient place… where all Alca's children… were kin. Uh… uh… but what to call it?"
Rewards
Upon completing A Grand Fable, the Envoy will be rewarded with the following:
- The
Fragment of the
Pensive's Bonnet Helm, which must then be Crafted.
- The
Scrying Smite upgrade, a permanent character upgrade which allows the Envoy to complete the Journal entries of Foes by performing Pull Smites.

Where Shoots the Wevetroots
My book is lacking a setting. Let us study the world trees, follow their winding roots!
"Envoy, I have had an epiphany! I see now the root of my failure to write my book- I am lacking a setting. Ah? Let us study the world trees, follow their winding roots!"
Where Shoots the Wevetroots is the second Saga in Chapter 1 of Orlick's book, and becomes available immediately upon completion of A Grand Fable. It will introduce the player to more of the Blighted World Trees, and encourage them to further utilise Pull Smites.
Both Where Shoots the Wevetroots and Blessings of Battle may be accepted simultaneously. Only one may be tracked in the Journal at a time, but both can be completed even whilst not actively tracked.
• Pull spears from Blighted World Trees
The Envoy must travel to three new World Trees across the isle of Midrath, and interact with each of them to pull the
lance from its bark and cleanse the Tree of Corruption.

Similar to when charging their Rune during A Grand Fable, the Envoy must perform a further five Pull Smites on any Foe who has suffered a Smite proc in Combat.
