A modest hamlet within the fort's walls. A community of farmers built upon infertile land. Though by the standards of new science, Curlailan soil is too full of gems and metals to farm, its tillers and sowers have yielded the most luscious crops upon it for an era.

Overview

Curlail is a settlement located at the heart of the Greater Curlail region on the isle of Midrath, to the north of Fort Curlail.

Upon this Twenty Seventh Day of Maltaine (May) in the Fourth Year of the Reign of King Jotar II, The Goode Bailiff Matthias of Curlail hath observed a farmer's dispute of public proportion.

The plaintiff Holm of Curlail, farmer of corn, hath squandered his King's tax by way of a bribe to the loathsome town crier Imbert of Curlail. Shortly after noonmeat, for the price of three and one half dracs, Holm bid Imbert to cry, ad nauseam, the following:

"Let it be known! Berich of Curlail is fold-hearted Feykin. Come ye to his crop! Stomp out his sprouts!" The labours of the day were thus abandoned by all to wreak havoc over the King's sweet corn.

After much revolt and little help from the onlooking guardsmen, The Goode Bailiff hath queried both Holm and Berich. The defendant dismissed all claims of late burning lanterns, unseasonably rathe corn stalks, and the "bewitching" of the plaintiff's hunting mutt Fleaswurth as a result of superior farming.

'Tis the opinion of The Goode and Juste Bailiff Matthias of Curlail that Holm of Curlail, Berich of Curlail, and the wretched crier Imbert be tried in the royal court and put to death for good measure.

Trivia

The Journal Histories of Curlail used to begin with the line, "The Roll and Writ of The Goode and Juste Bailiff Matthias of Curlail.". This was removed in Preludes 14.
